Introducing Shep! Huntsville Newborn Photographer

I am so in love with this session. From the lighting, to the furniture, to the Southern Gentleman themed nursery!  I mean it should belong in Garden & Gun Magazine! Get your beverage of choice and let’s just walk through this Newborn Lifestyle session.  I’m NOT sorry about the overshare of images.  There is no way I could narrow it down any further. You’re going to want to read until the end to see the nursery. I promise.

So those of you who can’t decide on whether to have your newborn session a week or so after you have the baby or whether you should wait until a few months later. Let this face tell you to wait those two months.

At a few months old, they are so much fun, yet still LOVE to be snuggled and loved on!

I am so thankful to meet this beautiful family and welcomed into their Huntsville home. They were so at ease with baby Shep! Total naturals when it comes to parenting!

Okay, just when you think the whole house is light and airy, she blows your mind as you walk into a Southern Gentleman themed nursery. Yes, my friends, I know your mind is blown too. It’s historic, and oh so stunning! I really loved it and the lighting would make any photographer swoon. And having lived in Charleston for 13 years I felt it had Charleston vibes all over it and I loved it!!

Hartley + Family | Huntsville Newborn Photographer

Baby Hartley is the luckiest girl in the world! She has two devoted, adoring older sisters. They were so happy that she arrived and to have another sister to love. It was just sweet to watch them dote on her the entire session. Each of the girls had their own personalities and I loved photographing them together. Hartley was about a month old for her session and I just love photographing “older” newborns. They are typically squishy and full of personality. They truly interact with their family and everyone is much more relaxed and comfortable when the babies are a bit older. The family is typically in a routine and settled a bit more than when the baby first comes home.

I was really happy to capture this loving and adoring family! They’re so sweet and I truly enjoyed every one of them!

U.S. Army Retirement Ceremony Photographer | Huntsville, Alabama

I was so happy to photograph the retirement of Major Cartner. He was honored for his 21 years of service between the U.S. Air Force, Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army. Typically, this event would have a large audience with friends and family. Due to the COVID-19 virus, this ceremony had to be limited to immediate family and his Commanding Officer. However, thanks to technology his family and friends were there with us….virtually. They were streaming live on Facebook throughout the entire event. This included his parents in Hawaii and his wife’s family in South Carolina and friends everywhere in between. They chose a perfect location at the amazing Veteran Memorial Park in downtown Huntsville, Alabama.

Congratulations on your retirement, Major Cartner! Thank you for your service! A very special thanks to the entire Cartner family for allowing me to document such an important event!

Choosing to look forward… Huntsville Newborn Photographer

Hey- yeah, so a lot has been going on since I last posted. I don’t feel like I need to tell you what has been going on (COVID-19), but I want to tell you that I’m choosing to look forward from this moment on. I’ve found myself wondering what the future is going to look like, both personally and with my business, like everyone else. I am choosing to hope for a future where I can leave my house and photograph your family in the very near future.

For those of you who have missed your maternity, fresh 48 and newborn sessions because of this, I’m so sorry. I want to tell you not to worry, or be sad or feel that you’ve missed your window. You haven’t! Yes, well, we can’t go back and do a fresh 48 in the hospital, but we can do a newborn session in your home! Your baby is still a baby. While we FEEL like we’ve been in quarantine for years, it’s only been a month (or so). Your baby is still new. They are still adorable and deserve to be photographed!

I’m now accepting bookings from mid-May forward. I feel as though it’s time to look forward and hope for the future. I feel with other states lifting their stay-at-home orders, we will be soon to follow. Now is the time to book!

A question I bet you are asking is how the sessions will be different post COVID-19. Great question. The health and the safety of your babies is always important to me, which is why at every session I:

  • Wash my hands (a LOT) during our session.
  • I don’t shoot when I am sick – ever

What I am doing for extra precautions moving forward:

  • Extra hand sanitizing (and equipment sanitizing, if possible)
  • Mask worn during our session
  • Immediate/Cohabitating family members only

An added bonus for your safety is to know that my and I have been in total isolation for 5 solid weeks.  As in, we haven’t left the house to go to the store (bless you grocery delivery), we have not once gotten take out or curbside pick up from anyone (I am utterly sick of cooking, yes.).  I have not been within 6 feet of anyone but the people living in my house (they’re stage 5 clingers at this point, help).  So I may be a little over excited to be at your house when this is all over, you will understand why.  I literally haven’t left my house for 5 weeks.  At all.  I have done this so once this is over, I can rest assured that I am totally safe to be around your family and your newborn.

I am so looking forward to photographing your family! I can’t wait to see you all in the very near (hopefully) future!

Welcome Home, Kellan! | Huntsville Newborn Photographer

It has been a very rainy year in Alabama. It was raining on the day I went to Kellan’s house for his newborn photography session. This was one of those rare times where I was happy it was raining! It provided the most interesting and moody, but amazing light! I typically like bright and airy in my photography, but I absolutely loved the way this session turned out. I just followed the light, embraced the shadows, and fell in love with the result.

I was thrilled to see Kellan and his parents again. I had shot their Fresh 48 Hospital session just a few weeks before. They had gotten home and said that they were getting a little bit of sleep, actually! Lucky them! I think they were adjusting well to being new parents. Their house was so pretty and I really loved the modern yet cozy vibe of the nursery as well! Such a beautiful room!

Welcome home, Kellan!
